KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has announced the release of additional funds to tackle the outbreak of the Chikungunya Virus.
At a press conference on Thursday, Simpson Miller revealed that the Government has approved a further J$350 million to provide resources.
She noted that although more money will be allocated, this will not solve the problem and appealed to members of the public to do everything they can to destroy potential breeding sites.
The Prime Minister said garbage collection has been increased in several communities and this exercise will be followed up with the cutting of trees and shrubs among other things.
Concerning medication to treat the virus, she said there is no need for alarm as the island has enough supplies of paracetamol for distribution free of cost to persons in need.
